It never rains in So Cal, right? Ah, but when it does, or even if it doesn't, it's great to have a Plan B for indoors. With a little planning, you'll find plenty to do.

The library is often overlooked for purposes beyond the periodical room or bookshelves. Turns out, Manhattan Beach Library offers a free basic yoga class for adults on Tuesdays once a month from 7-8 pm. If you bring your well-behaved children, let them hang out at the kid's corner while you downward dog. Where's a more peaceful place to stretch and relax than a library?

To work off some pent-up energy, we recommend a reservation at the South Bay Table Tennis center, just a short jaunt from the beach in Torrance. For the cost of a latte per person, you can spend an hour ping ponging away with a friend or three. You'd be surprised at how many calories you might burn while enjoying a little competitive rally—maybe reserve two hours to be safe.

While beach cities tend to have their share of brew pubs, there are mellower options for the more wine-inclined. Barsha has a great hometown vibe and an impressive selection of diverse varietals to sample. They also serve snacks for noshing, including a decent charcuterie platter. Plus, if you prefer beer, you're in luck, there are a good half dozen to choose from. Great for gift shopping as well.

With Spring approaching, it's not a bad idea to prep for home improvements. Take advantage of the free DIY classes at Home Depot, taught by seasoned store associates, and pick up a new skill. Build your confidence in basic projects like installing fixtures and updating decor while getting hands-on training for proper tool usage. Craft classes for kids are sometimes offered as well. Store schedules vary, and these tend to be Saturday events with registration required.

If you're a foodie or simply striving to impress someone with a new dish, sign up for a cooking class at the South Bay School of Cooking in neighboring Redondo Beach. These fun, participatory classes are designed to teach and entertain, while ensuring kitchen safety as well. Don an apron and bring a bottle of wine if you wish, because you'll enjoy the fruits of your labors after your culinary adventure.

Finally, what better way to spend an evening indoors than laughing away your troubles? A staple of the Hermosa Beach area, the Comedy and Magic Club often features headliners, like Jay Leno along with upcoming talent. Arrive early and enjoy a full meal, or you can snack and drink while you ha-ha have yourself a relaxing, fun evening. Shows are offered every night but Monday.
