Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA

The Rose Bowl is the "granddaddy of them all" and the Huskies from the University of Washington in Seattle will play against the Ohio State Buckeyes from Columbus on January 1. Ohio State is ranked #6 in the NCAAF ratings while the UW Huskies are #9. The University of Washington is the top team in the Pacific Coast Conference (PAC 12) while Ohio State tops the Big Ten Conference.

The PAC team was always the host playing against a Big Ten team from 1947 until the college football playoff system changed the rules in 2002. Both universities have played in the Rose Bowl in previous years. The 2019 game is sure to please once again.

A Little Rose Bowl History
The first bowl game was played in 1902 when Michigan ran over Stanford 49-0. The game was played in Tournament Park in Pasadena.

The event was part of the New Years Day Tournament of Roses established by Pasadena's fashionable Valley Hunt Club. The college football tournament was not played again until 1916 when Washington State University defeated Brown 14-0. It continued every year after that with a major west coast college team playing against a Midwestern, southern or eastern conference team.

The stadium known as the Rose Bowl opened in 1923 and hosted its first New Year's Day college football game. The University of Southern California defeated Penn State 14-2. The kickoff was delayed for an hour since the Penn State team was stuck in traffic!

The Tournament of Roses Parade
The Rose Parade, started in 1890, is more spectacular each year. The magnificent floats feature flowers, seeds, grasses, and other organic materials from everywhere in the world. It is a unique parade televised throughout the world. You can watch it on television, but seeing the parade in person is a special experience. You can see the Tournament of Roses Parade and attend the football game with Rose Bowl packages that include tickets and motorcoach transportation.
