A lot of great things go into making Manhattan Beach an amazing place to visit, but if you find yourself needing a break from all that sun and surf for a while, (it could happen), don't forget that it's also home to a large creative community. The Manhattan Beach art scene is one with something for everyone and can be enjoyed in many ways.
Take the many, many art galleries in the area, for instance. Several framing shops in the area are also art galleries, or vice versa, so be sure to look closely when on your quest for art. One such place is the amazing Riley Arts Gallery, which showcases the work of 32 unique artists in a variety of mediums. Whether you like painting or photography, or are even just looking for an unusual gift, this beach-side gallery is a great stop. For an entirely different spin on art, visit the Bo Bridges Gallery. This gallery prides itself on taking Bridge's incredible photography and making it completely customizable for your needs. Massive in size or tiny, framed, mounted, or even turned into a wall decal, they can do it.
If you'd rather visit art where people aren't expecting you to buy it, then the Manhattan Beach Creative Arts Center is for you. Running from October 26 to December 31 is "A Peek Into Chicano Art," a unique exhibition from the private collection of none other than Cheech Marin. Featuring 15 artists, it might indeed just be a peek, but well worth the experience. With several galleries and regular lectures, concerts and classes, the Center is another fine addition to the art scene.
Of course, Manhattan Beach also has an impressive art in public places program, so you can expect to see something nearly anywhere you go. With the city's Sculpture Garden Program, many of these artworks change on a yearly basis, so one trip here won't necessarily be like the next one!
