Race for the Community at the Manhattan Beach 10k Run October 1st

Calling all community-minded runners and walkers! Mark your calendars for the Manhattan Beach 10k Run on October 1st, and join one of the very few races in the country that's completely volunteer organized.

Since 1978, proceeds from the nonprofit Manhattan Beach 10K Run have gone to support community fitness scholarships and causes. Some of the worthwhile projects the race has supported in the past include synthetic turf at the soccer field on Marine Avenue, the Mira Costa High School track, the play structure at the Live Oak Park Tot Lot and more. Around 30 volunteers donate their time throughout the year to plan and prepare for this annual event.

The race, which is USATF Certified, sets off at 7:30 AM and the finish line closes at 9:30 AM. Both runners and walkers are welcome to enter; everyone who finishes gets a t-shirt and medals go to the top 10 combined running times in each category. You can enter as a two-member family team in the categories of brothers, sisters, brother/sister, mother/daughter, father/daughter, father/son, or mother/son. Challenge yourself to beat the record of 30:03 set in 2002 or just run for fun!

Age groups from 9 to over 90 are welcome. Team members must be at least 9 years old, but kids under 9 who complete the course get a special ribbon. There's also a special division for participants over 200 pounds.

Although family teams are the only ones recognized, you can still run with a larger group of friends, family members or co-workers. Get creative and wear matching outfits, colors, hats - have fun with it!

Racers will even have entertainment along the way, both from cheering fans and by musical bands along the route. Videos will go up on YouTube and photos will be posted on the website. For everyone's safety, leave strollers, pets, skateboards, in-line skates, bikes and the like at home.
