Manhattan Beach is located in sunny Southern California . With the great California summer weather, July is a time for the city of Manhattan Beach to celebrate.  Surprisingly, many activities are not at the beach.  Guests at the Sea View Inn have many activities to keep them busy.

Concerts in Polliwog Park

Every July, One West Bank presents a series of concerts in Polliwog Park on Sundays in the park amphitheater.  The concerts are free, and all you need is a snack and a blanket to sit on.  Each concert features opening bands or performances, followed by the main group performance.  The bands for July cover a lot of music genres.  A performance to our troops starts out the series.  This is followed by the Pettybrakers on July 7th.  Queen Nation, quite a change, is next on the 14th followed by Lucky Ones on July 21.  Rounding out July is Speedbuggy USA.  Guests can download a map online that shows how to find the park and the concert area.

July 4th Swim Party

Each 4th of July, the Begg Community Pool holds a party.  This party is for those kids under 12 and runs from 10 AM to 2 PM.  The party includes treats, drink and a variety of pool games all for an entrance fee of five dollars.  The kids should have a great time under the sun with all their friends.

July 4th Fireworks

At the Manhattan Beach seaside lagoon, there is a picnic and fireworks show held each year. And, of course, there is the lagoon to play in. Games and other events are held during the day both on and off the water.  Then after dark, the fireworks fill the sky until about 10 pm.  This is a great way to spend the 4th of July with your fellow residents and visitors.

58th Manhattan Beach Grand Prix

This bicycle race is held every year by the local bicycle club.  It begins at 7 am on July 21 and covers a course that features hills, parks and city streets.  Entrants must pre-register for this contest.  Residents and visitors can watch the race for free.  Of course, the finish line is the most popular location, but some racers don't finish until the afternoon.

Northrop Grumman Intern Demonstration at Mira Costa High School (Thinking Required)

On July 27, the interns for Northrop Grumman this summer are presents an active video game about saving the environment.  The event is free and no tickets are needed.  For more information, check the intern's online site at Eventbrite.  This is a yearly event to celebrate the end of the intern season and involve local residents with some of the contractor's programs.  Parking is free, too. The event begins at 9 am and lasts until 12 pm.  Previous sessions can be found on YouTube.

Manhattan Country Club Annual Open Tennis Tournament

Every year, the Manhattan Beach Country Club hosts its annual tennis tournament.  All comers are welcome to participate.  The tournament features both professional and amateur levels.  This year, the tournament will be held on July 25-28.  The event is single elimination and all entrants receive a swag bag, lunch, water and a tee shirt. You don't need to be a member to play, but non-members will need to park in the accessory parking lot.  Registration takes place on line and there is an entrance fee.  All finalists must abide by club clothing policy for tennis.
