28 December 2018 Written by   Jeff Shotwell Published in blog

Craft brewery has become a thriving industry in Southern California, so we've curated some local area events, sure to satisfy your thirst for something cool and sudsy.

Serving the L.A. area, Smog City Brewery in Torrance has it's tap room open for tastings 7 days a week, where it features its regular brews along with seasonal beers. Each Thursday in November they host Pints With A Purpose, geared at helping the environment and L.A. River area, where your tastings will contribute to this sustainable effort.  If you're a fan of sours, stop by the Welcome to the Wood Cellar event on Saturday, November 10th between 12 and 10pm. They'll be featuring their special releases along with pairings from local food trucks.

In nearby Redondo Beach you can get in touch with your inner artist at Paint and Pint, and ongoing Tuesday evening event featured at King Harbor Brewing and hosted by Malin's Art. Paint materials are included along with a pint of KHB beer, all for the reasonable price of $35. Get artsy, get tipsy-- just get out of the house and have some fun! No previous painting (or drinking) experience required. Starts at 7 pm.

On Saturday, November 17th, Yorkshire Square Brewing in Torrance is hosting the season's largest local beer event, Cask's Not Dead Fest 2018, with  more than 25 brewers from Central and Southern California competing in a blind judging contest. Favorites like Beachwood Brewing, Karl Strauss, L.A. Ale Works, Simmzy's and more will regAle judges and fans alike with their best traditional cask creation while they vie for titles. Come early for the VIP session at 12:30 or attend the General session starting at 2 pm, and grab a bite from one of the food vendors on hand. Tickets are on sale now.

Just down the coast at the Queen Mary in Long Beach you can enjoy a Tim Burton inspired tasting at the Nightmare Before Christmas Beer Festival. All aboard to the Grand Salon where Captain Jack Skeleton will be featured along with other Halloween Town characters amid entertainment, food, and most importantly, samples of 20 seasonal ales from local breweries including pumpkin and winter brews. It all begins at 6:30 pm. Get there early and check out the ship if you've never been.

Get in some arm lifts and downward facing foams at Yoga+Beer, held at El Segundo Brewing Company on Main Street in El Segundo. Each Sunday you can experience the mind and body enhancing practice of yoga while imbibing a pint or tasting flight of your choosing. The relaxed setting is actually inside the brewery, so bring a mat, be there by 10:30 am, and be ready to be restored and retoxified. Each class lasts an hour, but you can stay after as long as you wish. There's also a Yoga+No Beer option available for those who like to stop and smell the hops but not drink them.
