August 1-5, we will be celebrating the 56th Annual International Surf Festival! The 2018 host city is Redondo Beach, but each of the 4 South Bay beach cities will have events on their shores. And to have easy access to all of the activities, plan to stay at the premier Manhattan Beach hotel - The Sea View Inn!
The purpose of the ISF is to promote the four South Bay cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, and Torrance. The event also promotes the world's best lifeguard service and physical fitness. Thousands participate every year from ages 8 to late 80s.
Register online to attend the kick-off dinner Wednesday evening, August 1, which will include the Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Medal of Valor award ceremony. The Medal of Valor recognizes the Los Angeles County Lifeguards for acts of heroism in the line of duty. First awarded in 1981, it serves to allow the public to recognize and appreciate the efforts of our brave, hard-working lifeguards.
The three main events will take place Friday through Sunday, August 3-5. The first will be held Friday and Saturday, August 3 and 4. The Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament is the premier volleyball tournament of Southern California! The second, held on Saturday August 4, is the Judge Irvin Taplin Medley Relay. The third, the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim is one of the most popular long distance swims in the United States.
However, there will be competitions and other great events daily! If you've never been, this is an experience you do not want to miss. You deserve to unwind, watch the competitors, or be a participant. Everyone needs to have a favorite event of the International Surf Festival!
