Do you enjoy competitive fun at the beach and lively celebration parties afterward? You’ll probably enjoy the annual Manhattan Open where tourists and residents alike look forward to joining in the festivities.
The Manhattan Open is known as “Wimbledon” or “The Super Bowl” to the volleyball community and on August 17th-20th the Association of Volleyball Professional (AVP) will be playing on the iconic Manhattan Beach in part of a cross-country volleyball tournament that stretches from coast-to-coast—including stops in Texas.
You can expect to see big names and the world’s top volleyball players at the Manhattan Open, it has been an event since 1960 and remains significant for world-class athletes who leave other obligations to ensure they can attend this specific tournament.
The Manhattan Open is a unique event because, although world-class, it is the only stop on the tournament tour where amateur players can place into the event by way of qualifying rounds and play among the professionals—winners will receive a bronze volleyball shaped plaque on the Volleyball Walk of Fame located on the iconic Manhattan Beach Pier.
General admission to the event is FREE! Parking on the Manhattan Beach Pier will be impacted due to the tournament so be sure to look up alternate parking locations in advance. If you’re trying to decide on where to stay during the tournament and are not a local resident, The Sea View Inn at the Beach is a lovely boutique hotel and is the closest hotel to Manhattan Beach.
