The Strand Manhattan Beach, also known as Marvin Braude Bike Path, is a paved bicycle path that starts at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades and continues 22 miles south to Torrance County Beach. There are a few places along the way where the trail becomes a road for a short while, but those are few and far between.
The Strand is frequently seen on television shows and in commercials and movies. Most of the path is for cycling only, but the section between Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach has a separate walking path as well.
Locals and vacationers enjoy The Strand for relaxed leisure, but you'll also frequently see cycling clubs and serious road bikers out for exercise on The Strand. They're the ones yelling "on your left!" as they fly past you.
Cruising along the path is a great way to get acquainted with the various beach communities along the way. The beaches of LA are unique in their flavors and vibes. The experience and people-watching changes from rich and famous in Pacific Palisades, to family fun at the Pier in Santa Monica, to the vibrant culture of Venice Beach, the sophisticated yachts and high-rise condos of Marina del Rey, through relaxed Playa del Rey, to the surf and stylish beach towns of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach.
