Out of the many Attractions/Things to Do in Los Angeles , the Hollywood sign is one of the most well-known sites in America. This poses the question: How close can one get to the famous sign?
The sign was first constructed in 1923 and originally said "Hollywoodland". It has since been torn down and rebuilt and it now just says "Hollywood". Sitting on the top of the hill in Los Angeles, it is on Mt Lee. Unfortunately, it is illegal to put any hands on the sign but standing close is still permitted for you to get the opportunity to shoot your best selfie.
From Griffith Park, you could take the easily accessible Mt Hollywood Trail. From here, you can see the sign from a wonderful side angle. There are two points in Griffith Park where you can start out on the trail. It is a 6.5-mile loop trail that provides a breathtaking close-up of the Hollywood sign.
The three-mile hike to the sign starts in the parking lot of Griffith Observatory. If you want to take the children, there is a decent hike that starts at Charlie Turner trailhead.
Of course, in neighboring towns like Cahuenga, there are other routes that take you through folk gardens and down by the reservoir. On some of these trails, you can encounter varying types of Wildlife. Do not forget to pack plenty of water and appropriate hiking boots.
